Executive Training Program on Corporate Social Responsibility.  Design and lead a six-month program to help the 24 corporate sponsors of the group Peru 2021 (www.peru2021.org) to develop their internal management performance indicators for CSR.  Client:  Peru 2021 and Universidad del Pacifico, Lima, Peru.  Feb 04 – August 04.

Workshop on Urban Environmental Management.  Designed, coordinated and facilitated two-day workshop for Globe 2002 conference.  Client:  Pacific Northwest Economic Region.  Dec 2001 – March 2002.

Environmental Management Accounting for Cleaner Production.  Served as strategist, author and panelist for a three-part Internet-based colloquium series on EMA, targeted to Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States.  Client:  US AID.  June – October 2001.

Pollution Prevention for Sustainable Cities.  Conceived, designed and directed an international, four-day intensive training workshop on pollution prevention and environmental management systems for local governments (see www.cleancities.net).  Client:  Pacific Northwest Economic Region, May 2001. 

Environmental Indicators.   Designed and presented a commercial one-day course on Environmental Performance Indicators to an audience of 70 people.  Client: Oregon Natural Step Network.  Portland, February 2001.

Seminar on Cleaner Production Financing.  Presented a 90-minute video conference in partnership with USAID Peru.  Attended by about 80 senior finance and development officials in Lima.  Client:  USAID Peru.  August 2000.

Promoting Pollution Prevention Technology Exports.  Presented seminars explaining the difference between environmental and pollution prevention technologies, how to identify practical technologies that prevent pollution, and how to establish an international technology transfer mechanism for pollution prevention technologies.  Client:  DevTech Systems Inc., June 2000

Fee-Based Environmental Management.  Co-taught a one-week workshop on the use of fee systems for environmental management for visiting Romanian environmental and civic officials sponsored by the World Learning Institute.  Client: American Cultural Exchange.  Seattle, May 2000

Train-the-Trainer in "Environmentally Sustainable Business" for Business School Faculty.  Design and delivery of two-day training/workshops for faculty from the Graduate Business Schools of California State University at Hayward (USA), De la Salle University (Philippines), Tammaset University (Thailand).  Topics:  Environmental management as an evolution of traditional business theory; industry environmental structural analysis; competitive value chain management; teaching resources; professional networks; career opportunities; working with local leaders.  Client:  California State University at Hayward.  March 1999 - ongoing.

Green Productivity Training for Consultants and Technical Assistance Providers.  Design and delivery of a one-week Train-the-Trainers course on Green Productivity (including waste minimization and pollution prevention) for Philippine experts working for the Development Academy of the Philippines.  Client:  Asian Productivity Organization.  April 1999.

Cleaner Production Training for Government Environmental and Economic Development Agencies.  Design and delivery of a one-week course on Cleaner Production for environmental and economic development officials in Sha'anxi Province, People's Republic of China.  Client: Asian Development Bank.  March 1999.

Development of a Professional Course on Profitability Analysis for Cleaner Production.  Conceived and designed this project to help Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants offer a Continuing Professional Education course.  Managed Philippine contacts and partnerships, conducted company case studies, helped design course and conduct trainers' training.  Partners included Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Tellus Institute; funding from USAID.  August 1998 - December 1999.

Senior Executive Training for a Hotel Chain.  Conducted facility and management environmental assessments of top hotels in Delhi, Jaipur and Agra, India; researched environmental management of hotels and designed training program for hotel managers and corporate executives; conducted sustainable business training for 30 managers.  June-July 1998.

Cleaner Production Training and Program Assistance.  Conducted cleaner production training in Nepal for NGOs in environmental partnerships with local businesses.  Helped with project design and implementation.  June 1997.

Design and Training for an Integrated Corporate Environmental Management System.  Led top corporate staff of multi-billion-dollar manufacturing company in designing a management system focused on cleaner production and world-class competitiveness, and integrating quality and environmental management using Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award criteria and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System elements.  Provided training to corporate staff and top managers.  June 1996 - June 1998.

Workshop on International Quality Assurance Systems.  Facilitated an 8-day international workshop sponsored by Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation organization to design a training program on Integrated Standards-Based Management Systems for Small Business, specifically addressing the fundamentals of ISO 9001 and 14001.  Participants included 13 national experts nominated and funded by their host countries.  December 1997.

First Asian-Pacific Roundtable on Cleaner Production.  Managed the design and facilitation of major conference sponsored by the Thailand Pollution Control Department and the Asian Development Bank.  Conference included representatives from cleaner production and industrial environmental management programs from all of Asia.  February – November 1997.

Seminar for CEOs on Strategic Environmental Management.   Two-hour presentation for 50 company owners and Chief Executive Officers.  Client:  ASEAN Environmental Improvement Project. Manila and Kuala Lumpur, January 1995.

Workshop on Pollution Prevention Finance and Accounting.   One-day workshop for 50 facility managers and financial officers.  Client:  ASEAN Environmental Improvement Project. Manila and Kuala Lumpur, January 1995.

Development of Training Curriculum for Industrial Environmental Management.   Program and technical consultation to a Malaysian non-governmental organization.  Client:  ASEAN Environ­mental Improvement Project.  October – December 1994.

Training for the Washington Department of Ecology.  As an Environmental Planner, led many training events for organizations affected by the state Pollution Prevention Planning regulation.  Seattle, 1991-1994.

  • Helping over 100 companies in Washington State prepare 5-year Pollution Prevention plans meeting state requirements, and in some cases helping transform their entire approach to the environment
     
  • Helping San Miguel Corporation of the Philippines to integrate ISO 14001 into its Baldrige Performance Criteria evaluation program
     
  • Teaching practical clean production methods to environmental coordinators from Nike Inc. and the Gap Inc. in USA, Philippines and Singapore.
     
  • Helping a USA non-profit organization design and deliver a technical assistance program for recycling technology in the Philippines
