APEC Network on Sustainable Cities got started in 1997 and held a symposium at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand in 2000. It was partly sponsored by the Human Settlements Development Programme, a portal to sustainable cities in Asia that includes a Best Practices Initiative with many examples and a discussion forum.

The City Development Strategies Initiative is focused on sustainable urban development and includes a discussion forum and a Mayors' Network.

APEC Virtual Center for Environmental Technology Exchange includes a nice section on municipal solid waste management as well as many Asian resources.
