Electronics - under construction

The electronics industry is one of the most advanced sectors when it comes to environmental management.  The Electronics Industry Environmental Roadmap is a long document describing many different efforts throughout the industry and what is needed for the future.  Individual electronics companies (Digital, IBM, HP, Apple, etc.) also have put a lot of information about their environmental activities on the web; look for them at the Corporate Environmental Reporting website.

Because it is such a technical industry, the electronics sector has a lot of technical information available.  The Envirosense site is a good place to start.  There is a subsection on the electronics industry and many case studies.  Envirosense also maintains several databases on solvents substitution.  This is important because solvents are one of the most common and environmentally hazardous materials in the industry, and more environmentally friendly alternatives need to be used.  Look under the EPA Industry Sector Notebooks section for basic guide to the electronics industry and the environment.
