Property Development

The first step in CP for property development is to prepare a good Environmental Impact Assessment of the area to be developed.  Sustainable Design and Construction methods should be applied.  Energy and water conservation must be designed in and practiced.  Waste Management Systems are needed to keep the local environment clean.

The links in each section below are arranged in order of decreasing relevance; I think the first links are the better ones.

Environmental Impact Assessment

One of the more interesting tools available is the computerized Environmental Impact Assessment Guide which you can download to your PC and use to get a pretty good education about the EIA process.  There is also an EIA discussion group and you can browse the EIA discussion archives to see if anyone has information to help you.  Here are some checklists and guidance for EIAs:

Sustainable Design and Construction

These links are devoted primarily to reducing pollution from constructing and operating facilities, and not to urban planning, which  you can learn about via Yahoo.   But there is an interesting Forum on Habitat in Developing Countries, featuring low-cost architecture, planning, housing and operations that is worth mentioning. The Green Development site is also interesting.

The US Department of Energy has a great page full of Best Practice Guides for project and facility management, which includes a guide for Pollution Prevention.  You have to right-click on the links and save the file to your disk then read it with Adobe Acrobat (info is on the page).

The latest information can be found in the Environmental Building News and the Green Building News Clips Archive.   Here are some general sites:

The US Green Building Council provides lots of technical information to its members.  There are also two sites devoted to the increasingly important topic of INDOOR air quality:  Indoor EnviroCenter and Indoor Air Quality, HVAC, and Energy.
